Lithium ion batteries forbidden in cargo baggage
For flights departing from April on, smartphones and laptops will no longer be allowed in checked baggage sent by cargo. These devices contain lithium ion batteries which can explode in the cargo hold, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization. Travelers may still take small lithium ion batteries with up to 100 watt (e.g. in Mobile Phones, Tablets and Laptops) with them – either in checked baggage or in their hand luggage. Respective replacement lithium ion batteries are only allowed in hand luggage!
