New British entry requirements
The British government is introducing new entry requirements for travelers who currently do not require a visa.
The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) grants a traveler permission to enter the United Kingdom and is electronically linked to their passport.
ETA requirements will be introduced by country:
- November 15, 2023: Nationals of Qatar will require an ETA. They can apply for an ETA starting from October 25, 2023.
- February 22, 2024: Nationals of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will require an ETA. They can apply for an ETA starting from February 1, 2024.
- Rest of the year 2024: Additional countries will be announced.
When the ETA comes into effect, it is set to cost GBP 10.00 and will be valid for two years or the remaining validity of the traveler’s passport if it expires in less than two years.
The ETA is expected to be approved within three working days or less, but it may take longer if additional checks are necessary.
The ETA is also required for transit in the United Kingdom, even if you do not go through UK border control.
Applications can be submitted online.
