Finnair introduces new baggage rules for carry-on and checked bags
Starting June 1st, Finnair will change its baggage allowance policy.
Business Class travelers, both on European and long-haul flights, will have a decreased carry-on and checked baggage allowance. For tickets purchased on or after June 1st, the Business Class carry-on baggage allowance is limited to one small bag (40x30x15cm) and one carry-on (55x40x23cm) with a maximum weight of 8kg. For tickets purchased on or after June 1st, regardless of the ticket type or travel class (including Business Class), only one piece of standard-sized and weighted checked baggage is allowed. The maximum weight for a standard-sized checked bag is 23kg, with dimensions of 90x75x45cm. Bags exceeding the weight limit of a standard 23kg bag (up to 32kg) or sporting equipment such as golf bags or skis must be purchased as a travel extra. Sporting equipment can no longer be checked in as part of the standard baggage allowance but must be purchased separately.
Baggage allowances for Finnair-operated journeys to/from Japan, China, and the USA remain unchanged (2PC or 3PC, 32kg each). However, the smaller cabin baggage allowance mentioned above also applies to/from Japan and the USA when the flight is operated by Finnair.
Additionally, Finnair Plus Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Lumo members will experience some minor changes to their baggage benefits based on their tier status:
- Superlight ticket travelers who are top-tier members (Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Lumo) are entitled to a complimentary carry-on bag.
- Finnair Plus Silver members receive a 50% discount on one extra standard-sized checked bag (max. 23kg).
- Finnair Plus Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Lumo members enjoy one extra standard-sized checked bag for free (max. 23kg).
- Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo members can also check in one special-sized sports equipment bag for free.
